What the TCI separates
The TCI reads a person in two parts. Temperament is how your body reacts to a stimulus before thought arrives; it shows early and shifts little. Character is what experience built on top, and it keeps changing. The same behaviour coming from temperament and coming from character are not equally movable, which is why the split is worth making.
- Temperament: inborn reaction
- Character: built by experience
- Different things are changeable
Cost and where to take it
The full TCI is a clinical instrument, usually administered through a counselling centre or clinic. The form itself and the interpretation session are billed separately. Short versions circulating online differ from the full instrument in both item count and scoring. If you found a free version, check first whether it is the real TCI.
- Administered by institutions
- Form and interpretation billed separately
- Online short forms differ
Where interpretation gets stuck
The most common snag after receiving a score report is reading the numbers. Does high mean good? Does low mean a problem? For most scales, neither. A high score means certain situations favour you and others do not. That is exactly why interpretation matters more than the number.
- High is not good
- Advantage shifts by situation
- Read combinations, not single scores
What Beyond Persona does
Beyond Persona is not the TCI. Different items, different scoring. It does answer a related question: what barely moves in you, and what shifts with circumstance. The free assessment breaks out how hard you lean on each way of judging, and flags a function your type profile does not mention when it runs strong. No payment required.
- A different instrument
- Strength per judging function
- Free to take
Where to start
If you want the formal split with a clinician to interpret it, take the TCI. If you want to see today how you judge and where the same situation keeps repeating, the free assessment is a reasonable first step. They measure different things, so neither replaces the other.
