ISTP Male Traits

The main trait of an ISTP man is that he trusts what he has checked himself over what he has been told. He shows little emotion, and unlike an ISTP woman, that usually goes no further than being called reserved or plain-spoken. Many still take a man's blank expression as simply how men are. But because it passes so easily, few people ever wonder what he is checking inside.

What are ISTP male traits?

An ISTP man does not accept an explanation as given. He checks for himself whether it holds together, and when the object in front of him and the description do not match, he trusts the object.

He also does not finish checking in his head. Told that a machine is not working properly, instead of listening to the explanation again he opens it, and when accounts differ about whether something works, he decides after trying it himself.

There is nothing extra in his movements. He does not say what is not needed for checking and does not make motions not needed for solving. From beside him he always looks still, and the moment the task is confirmed he moves faster than anyone.

He does not talk long with people who insist without grounds, because he learned the world by touching things and making them run rather than by explanation.

What criticism do ISTP men hear most?

The same attitude gets different words by gender. Showing little emotion ends at being called blunt for an ISTP man, while an ISTP woman is called cold or unfeeling.

Some criticisms are true. Checking how someone feels is at the very end of his order of judgment, so he goes on missing it when a partner shows they are hurt.

When his partner says something is hard, he offers a solution first. If they wanted sympathy, the two do not match, and when this repeats, they stop bringing things up at all.

He mistakes that quiet for things having improved. Only after the relationship ends does he learn that signs of hurt had been there for a long time, and this is the largest loss this type takes in relationships.

What is an ISTP man like in a relationship?

He does not say how he feels in words. Instead of saying he is worried, he fixes what is broken, and instead of saying he misses you, he is there at the moment he is needed.

So he often does not match a partner who needs it confirmed in words. Asked to say he loves them more often, he finds it awkward and still remembers the request and tries.

Time alone is something he must have. Even when he likes someone he does not reduce it, and if his partner mistakes that for a change of heart, both of them struggle.

He does not raise his voice in an argument. When his partner leads with emotion he stops answering, not because he is dismissing them but because he judges that nothing said in this state will settle anything.

How do you get close to an ISTP man?

He finds messages with no purpose hard. It is not that he dislikes people. A conversation with no aim is difficult, so inviting him to do something together works far better.

Ask about a field he knows well and he talks at length. On an object he has handled for years or work he has done, his explanations get detailed, and this is almost the only moment a conversation with him continues for a long time.

He notices decorated speech quickly. He cannot let an account that does not add up pass, so he is comfortable with someone who says they do not know.

Pressing for an answer makes him step away instead. He moves once he has checked, and that takes time. Wait, and once he has decided, he says it more clearly than anyone.

He gets close much faster over time spent learning or making something together than over long talking. Something using the hands is better.

Which types are compatible with an ISTP man?

Many articles say ESFJ or ENFJ is a good match, on the grounds that being with someone who starts the conversation is comfortable. Still, compatibility cannot be decided from type alone.

Three differences have to be tolerated: whether a complaint needs a method or just listening, how much time alone is needed, and whether an argument has to be settled right away or after some time.

The first matters most for this type. Continuing to offer only solutions to a partner who wants sympathy makes the relationship hard. One habit of asking first whether a method or comfort is needed changes it a great deal.

The third goes wrong easily too. When feelings are strong he stops answering and says nothing, and his partner takes that as dismissal. In fact he is taking time to sort out his thoughts.

How does an ISTP man text?

He texts rarely. He simply does not do it without a reason, and it is his usual way of living rather than a lack of interest.

His replies are short and exact. He answers only what was asked, which is often misread as carelessness.

He finds long conversations in writing frustrating. When it looks like continuing for a long time, he suggests meeting, because finishing it in person is much faster for him.

He says yes to what will happen and no to what will not, so you can take his yes exactly as it is. He proves his feelings by being the first to appear when something urgent happens rather than by the number of messages.

Why are ISTP men all different?

Not every ISTP man is blunt. Type tells you as far as his way of checking and then moving.

For example, one ISTP man reads how people feel well and makes those beside him comfortable, so he is never called unfeeling, and another solves things with his hands and still keeps exactly to the order and the deadline.

Where attending to people comes in the order of judgment differs among ISTP men. That is why Beyond Persona measures 36 traits one by one.

Frequently asked

Why are ISTP men called blunt?

Because he feels no need to put his mood into words. Inside he is continually checking and working something out, so it is not that the feeling is missing. He simply sees no need to show it.

My ISTP man does not text. Have his feelings changed?

This type does not text without a reason to begin with. When he decides to end a relationship, the messages do not become fewer. They stop entirely. If they are only fewer, he is going on as usual.

What should I do after arguing with an ISTP man?

If you raise your voice he stops answering. Some time later, say what the problem was one item at a time, and he answers precisely. Talking that way works much better with him.

What is a weak point of ISTP men?

That checking how people feel is always last in his judgment. So he learns late that someone close is hurt. Asking him directly and regularly whether anything has upset him is the surest remedy for this type.
