The Wanderer

When the direction of a life is handed over to fate

One of 53 fired patterns
ESSENCE

The Wanderer: what combines into this pattern

You leave decisions and their outcomes to circumstance, fate, and chance. You do not build anything steadily, and you do not hold to one direction. From the outside it looks like a free life, but its core is the avoidance of hard choices and the responsibility that comes with them, a mode of flowing on without putting down roots anywhere.

DAILY SIGNAL

The Wanderer: where it shows up

Work, address, relationships, all of it goes wherever the current decides. When things get hard, it is time to leave. The right fit just has not come along yet, and there was nothing to be done about it. Both phrases make frequent appearances.

The lightness with which new territory gets tried is a real resource. But nothing accumulates in any one place, so as the years pass, two things empty out at once: deep relationships, and a domain that is your own.

DISTINCTION

Freedom and avoidance are not the same

A free choice is one whose consequences you take into your own hands. Avoidance hands the choice itself to the outside. Two kinds of drift can look alike while coming from different sources. There is a drift that follows pleasure, but the source of this pattern is not pleasure. It is the size of responsibility. What you are drifting away from is the key to reading it.

INTENSITY

The Wanderer: same pattern, different depth

The same pattern lived faintly and lived deeply makes for two different lives.

A mild form keeps movement available to you. A strong form removes the option of staying. Held in bounds, free movement and partial accumulation can coexist. Further in, your capacity for commitment and for building up lock up together, and the place that would have been yours to return to disappears. How strongly this pattern shows in you, and what to do about it, are part of your assessment results.
